This inner city balcony gives a nod to its mid-century modern exterior.
Before
Before: A cold and uninviting concrete box. The space was dark and functional at best, with a mismatched collection of planters and a couple of chairs. It lacked warmth, comfort, and any real purpose beyond being a passageway.
After: We took this tired balcony and transformed it into a peaceful, functional outdoor room.
Revitalized the floor with a fresh coat of Resene Perfect Taupe paint, creating a warm, neutral base.
Added privacy and greenery with a custom black planter box running the length of the balcony, planted with Ficus Tuffi trees.
Blended the space with its surroundings by adding clusters of off-white pots filled with tropical plants and a climbing Star Jasmine on a wire espalier.
Brought in warmth and function with a new Kwila timber outdoor deck, two rattan chairs, and a custom-made folding coffee table.
Completed the outdoor room with soft cushions and an outdoor rug for a comfortable and inviting feel.
The result? A dark, underutilized space has become a calming and elegant outdoor room, providing a peaceful and comfortable extension of the home.
