When this law firm approached us, their city balcony was all business: bare, exposed, and not exactly inviting. The goal? Create a space where staff could unwind over lunch and host clients in style.
Before:A concrete box with a view, but little else. No privacy, no planting, and definitely no vibe.
After:We gave the balcony a new lease on life.
First, we lined the railings with low-profile trough planters to create a sense of enclosure and privacy—without blocking the light or view. At the far end, a large planter with a statement tree softened the stark wall and gave the eye somewhere to land.
In the main area, we added a striking cluster of grey planters centred around a Podocarpus gracilior for height and structure. Around it, we planted a bold mix of South African daisies and hardy succulents—chosen for colour, texture, and drought tolerance (low effort, high reward).
We transformed the existing bench seats by custom-making squabs for comfort, and finished the space with a beautiful outdoor rug—bringing the whole space together as an outdoor room.
The result?A modern, welcoming balcony where business meets botanical. Great for a coffee break, a quiet brainstorm, or a glass of wine with a client as the sun goes down.
